«Nebbiolo Harvest, mission accomplished. We did it again this time: it was hard, but we brought home a great result». This is how Sergio Marchisio celebrates the Nebbiolo harvest, which has just ended. «Spectacular bunches, of truly remarkable quality. Of course, we had to struggle: recovering, one by one, the single bunches saved from the hail that hit Castellinaldo at the beginning of the summer. But the outcome is more than consoling: it promises to be a truly great year, even for Nebbiolo». Only roses (without the thorns) at Vezza d’Alba, on the legendary Valmaggiore hill: “Fortunately, that prestigious vineyard was completely spared from the storms. Thus, we were able to recover 100% of the production. Which represents true excellence in the Roero».
It’s well known: the Nebbiolo from Valmaggiore is really considered a “must”, given by the exceptional (sandy) characteristics of the terroir. In addition, the Marchisio Family manages to add something more. Its Nebbiolo d’Alba Doc “Valmaggiore”, in fact, is literally revolutionary. It’s the first Nebbiolo, ever, to be vinified in amphora. An amazing red wine, fragrant, deep: capable of great longevity, but without ever showing signs of old age. This was noticed by the international experts of “Decanter”, who awarded it a special mention. Sergio Marchisio smiles: «Our Valmaggiore is organic and biodynamic, like all our ultra-genuine wines. It’s an extra “prize” for those who – like us – have also bet on the health of the Earth». To remind the unsettling character of Valmaggiore ther’is its courageous screw cap, too: another beautiful bet won.
